Welcome to the Smith School website.  The staff at Smith School would like your child to have a successful year filled with the excitement of learning and growing in an academically stimulating environment.  Your active support and cooperation, combined with our best professional efforts, will ensure success for your child.

We are proud of our staff and students and invite you to be involved in the learning process while attending Smith School.  Please visit our classrooms, school office, library, computer lab, and playground.  There is a spirit of cooperation and progress at our school we want to share with you.

The goal of our school is to provide each student with a challenging and rigorous curriculum appropriate to their academic level.  We believe every child can achieve academic success.  To this end, every child will be provided with quality instructional experiences that recognize, support, and maintain high expectations for all students.

We have three goals upon which we focus our efforts for the school year.  Our first goal is a student goal stating “Every Student at Smith School is a Good Reader.”  Stated simply for children, our intent is to keep them aware that we must keep reading and reading instruction as our highest priority.  In addition, our school plan has three additional goals that provide a focus for our School Improvement Program team, our staff development efforts, and our resource allocation.  The goals are:

1. All students at Agnes Smith Elementary School will meet or exceed grade level standards in the areas of reading and language arts as measured by the California Standards Test and local formative assessments.
2. All students at Agnes Smith Elementary School will meet or exceed grade level standards in the area of mathematics as measured by the California Standards Test and local assessment measures.
3. All English Learners shall improve a minimum of one proficiency level as measured on the CELDT.

Additionally, Smith School has been awarded the high recognition of being a two-time California Distinguished School.  We are proud of this accomplishment as we believe it to be a reflection of the high quality, well-rounded education that we provide our students.

I encourage you to be involved both with the educational process at Smith as well as the activities of our PTA.  Our PTA provides excellent support and enhances the work we do with our students.  We look forward to the opportunity to work with you in support of achieving our school mission and vision.
